While other news reports are receiving more attention than the H1N1 (swine flu) virus this summer, Government health officials are fearful that the H1N1 might make a comeback during the fall flu season. Past experience has demonstrated that pandemics like the swine flu virus usually come in waves, and that the second wave could be even more dangerous and severe as compared to the first time.
Adaptive Marketing in Norwalk, Connecticut, a company that has created programs that facilitate consumers in saving on products that are associated with healthcare and various other needs as well, is sharing the information that they have ascertained about the steps that are crucial to decrease the spread of germs in the office. Taking these primary precautions could help fight the spread of maladies like the swine flu.
It is likely that the H1N1 virus is transferred in ways that are similar to other flu viruses like the seasonal flu. Therefore, it is estimated that the virus spreads by coughing or sneezing. It is obvious therefore that the prime line of defense for each person at the workplace is to attempt to keep their germs to themselves. All employees should cover their nose and mouth and sneeze or cough into a tissue paper at all times, irrespective of whether they are ill or not. Employees should wash their hands regularly or use an alcohol-based sanitizer if water and soap are inaccessible.
Since germs can survive on work furniture, office workers should avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth all day. It is a nice idea to display signs prompting workers and reminding them about the need to take precautions to ensure that the germs are not spread in work surroundings such as the offices of Adaptive Marketing. Disinfecting areas, including telephone sets, door handles, chairs and tables should also help in forestalling the spread of germs.
Another precaution that many people are taking these days is face masks that are being worn over the nose and the mouth. However there is debate about whether these medical facial masks are effective in protecting against the swine flu virus or whether marketing gimmicks have made these products popular. The experts unanimously agree that a full-faced mask with a high-efficiency particle air filter is what is required to completely protect against fine particle viruses like the H1N1 virus. On the other hand, a medical mask may just provide the level of protection that you need especially when associate workers are falling ill around you.
One of the better ways to avert the transfer of germs at the workplace is to counsel associates about the importance of staying home when they experience any flu-like symptoms. Adaptive Marketing believes that employers should make it unobjectionable for employees not to come to the office when they are sick and even encourage the practice.
Clearly, it is unachievable to preserve surroundings that are totally germ-free at the office. But while the H1N1 pandemic seems to be diminishing in the United States, the warning of its recurrence is not a rumor that has been spread to scare people. As the fall season approaches, Adaptive Marketing will be increasing its efforts to prohibit the spread of germs in the workplace, in an attempt to hold back the spread of the sickness before it spreads across many people.

3. Cover your sneezes and coughs
Use tissue to wipe the nose if you have runny nose. When sneeze or cough, cover your mouth and nose with the help of tissue. After one use of tissue, throw it away and don’t reuse the tissues that were used. If you do not have the tissue, use your elbow to cover your nose and mouth at the time of sneezing. Whenever you dispose of your trash, wash the hands thoroughly with the soap or liquid soap. Before eating the food or anything for that matter, you have to always wash your hands.
4. Face Masks
When there is a flu outbreak, you have to use the specially made masks. If you use the surgical masks or the ones that are not specially designed, then it might not be helpful for you as the virus is very small and it can get through sides of the mask. It is recommended to carry the right masks wherever you go. The masks you buy should be tested and fitted medically so that seals correctly on the face. For the men wit beards, people having breathing problems and the children, the respiratory masks are not recommended for them as it will be difficult for them to breathe.

Not all of these people will have swine flu and not everyone with flu like symptoms will contact their GP.
The report also shows levels of influenza activity in each county of Wales. On 22 December the rate of diagnosis of flu-like illness at a local level ranged from 5.1 per 100,000 people in Denbighshire to 37.8 per 100,000 people in Newport.

Swine Flu – What Is All About?
11/12/09
Swine flu which is also known as H1N1 is a flu-like virus that can spread from person to person. It is different from the regular flu because it is affecting many young healthy adults and kids and the number of people getting hospitalized is larger. It is called swine flu because the same virus has also been seen in pigs.
Back in April 2009, the number of people catching the swine flu virus started to become concerning. World health organization got involved and decided to assess the situation. Many people were getting sick with flu like symptoms and what made it odd was that it was happening outside of flu season. It was also not affecting the typical people who would normally catch it. A third of people over 65 had immunity to it and young babies were not suffering as much as the older kids were. It was striking healthy young people and making them very sick.
It also spread from country to country very fast and started sending healthy people to the hospital. Although many people have only suffered mild cases there were still higher than normal amounts seen in the hospital and even suffering death. Most people who died from swine flu, died from the result of an illness associated with it.
Not only were healthy young people catching swine flu and having a hard time with it, so were people in the high risk groups. These groups include; pregnant women, people with asthma, kidney disease, lowered immune systems and people with diabetes.
Symptoms of the disease include but are not limited to; fever, sore throat, stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Vomiting and loose bowel movements have been noted but are not in every case. A person could have one of these symptoms or all of them. It also has been reported that in many of the deaths that people seemed to be getting better when their fever returns making them very ill.
It was advised that immediate help should be sought if any of the following symptoms happen, in kids; fast and trouble breathing, bluish, not waking up, fever with rash, not wanting to be held and irritable, and not wanting to drink. In adults the list include; breathing trouble, pain in chest, dizziness and confusion, and vomiting that doesn`t seem to stop.
Swine flu germs seem to stay on surfaces for two to eight hours and someone infected with swine flu is contagious one day before and up to seven days after.
The best way to prevent swine flu is to wash hands frequently and not put hands up to the face in public. If a family member is sick, try to keep everything clean and stay away from that person as well as keeping hands washed. A vaccine has also been developed and is available for everyone to take.
Swine flu is spread by either touching a contaminated surface and then touching your mouth or nose or eyes, or it can be spread by breathing in the air of someone infected, since it is also air born. Not everyone is catching it, and the duration of sickness in people is different, it is also striking hard on people randomly.

Swine Flu – A Brief Awareness
14/11/09
Swine flu is believed to be originated in Mexico and is known as such as the majority of genes present in the virus are regular Swine flu genes, even though it also contains human and avian flu genes as well. The symptoms are identical to those of normal flu such as runny nose, fever, coughing and body aches. However, some victims experience vomiting and diarrhea as well, and disease gets spread similar to seasonal flu.
The popular myth earlier was that people eating pork or pork products contracted this virus, but this proved to be incorrect. The fear of being another verge of pandemic, swept the entire world, but was immediately proved that it did not occur even due to water contamination; and in reality it is an airborne respiratory disease.
Swine flu evolved as a critical ailment, now it has been identified, diagnosed and accordingly proper treatment is given. The disease is diagnosed clinically taking into consideration the people with whom the patient has association, and if they have this ailment or symptoms. This is done by taking a quick test called nasopharyngeal swab sample to see if that person is infected with influenza virus A or B.
The tests can also be negative indicating no flu infection or can give positive results indicating A or B virus. In case this test proves to be positive indicating B type influenza virus, it is safe as it is not Swine flu. A positive result indicating A type virus can result in that person having conventional flu or Swine flu. The accuracy of such tests is challenging, and owing to this, a comparative study is being done. Recently, CDC has reported that Swine flu can be detected in an hour; however, right now it is available only to the military.
Swine flu is diagnosed by taking a test in a specialized laboratory and the best treatment available now is prevention by vaccination. The effort and work by many laboratories has resulted in producing vaccines to prevent the disease and the first vaccine was a nasal spray vaccine released in October, 2009. This vaccine has been approved for all age group individuals from 2 to 49, except for pregnant women who are not recommended to inject this vaccine.
However, another injectable vaccine made using killed H1N1 became available from October second week, and is approved from 6 months child to elderly, besides including pregnant females. These vaccines have received approval by the CDC only after undergoing clinical trials in the aim of proving that these vaccines are safe as well as effective. However, this does not overrule the fact that caregivers need to be aware of the guidelines of injecting this vaccine.
There has been a report that two antiviral agents, Tamilflu (Oseltamivir) and Relenza (Zanamivir) help in reducing Swine flu affects and also prevent the A and B influenza symptoms. However, indiscriminate use of these drugs should be restricted, besides these drugs are not recommended for people suffering with flu symptoms for over 48 hours or more. Conversely, patients facing severe infections may need additional measures like ventilation assistance and treatment of infections such as pneumonia occurring in patients with flu infection. There are interim guidelines suggested by the CDC for pregnant females to the given treatment using two antiviral agents.

Tips To Avoid The Swine Flu
12/11/09
Many people are concerned about the current scare of getting the swine flu. The virus is spreading from human to human and has been proven to be deadly for many in Mexico. Prevention in “catching” the swine flu is similar following the same steps in preventing you from catching the common cold or flu. By applying the following tips, you can reduce your risk in catching the swine flu.
Eat Nutritiously and Avoid Sugar
Quality food helps keep your immune system strong and your cells healthy. Food not only provides energy to your body, but all the nutrients that are essential for a healthy body.
Consuming sugar harms your health and has no nutritious value at all. Just a small amount of sugar has been proven to impair white blood cells up to 50% for very short periods of time, making it more challenging to fight other foreign dangerous invaders
Keep Your Hands Clean
In order to limit the risk of “catching the swine flu” or any other infectious disease, you simply must wash your hands. I know it sounds simple but maintaining a high standard of personal hygiene care is one of the most effective ways of avoiding infection and keeping you from getting sick. The biblical record clearly indicates that diseases are communicable and that the best protection against them is to prevent their spread.
Cleanse Your Body Internally
A body detox is essential in preventing you from catching any disease or getting sick. Toxic build up that has formed in our intestines (colon) stresses our immune system and will make it harder to deal with other potentially dangerous viruses.
You can reduce the fighting foreign of germs or virus when you body is clean internally and operating optimally.Your immune system can deal with foreign viruses better when toxins are eliminated from your bodies organs and tissues. A body detox will also allow your body to receive the essential nutrients needed better after eating a nutritious diet.
Drink Adaquate Amounts of Water
Water is necessary in keeping your body operating effectively and improving the way we look, feel, and live. All living things need water. When your body lacks sufficient amounts of water, you may experience headaches, fatigue, dry skin, and other harsh symptons. This will also challenge your body in fighting against disease. Without water, our vital organs may shut down because of severe dehydration. This may also lead to death.
Get Proper Sleep Daily
During deep sleep, our body release potent immune-enhancing substances that strengthen your immune system function. When our bodies do not get enough sleep, your immune system will not operate at full capacity. We then are more likely to become ill with common illnesses. A healthy, deep sleep allows our body to release a significant amount of growth hormone that boost immune system and aids in the growth and repair of the body.
When you strengthen your immune system naturally, and follow these common sense tips of prevention, you will reduce the risk of getting the swine flu.

Garlic and the Swine Flu
08/11/09
The H1N1 viruses, more commonly known as the swine flu, is once again in the public spotlight as flu season descends upon us like a bull on the crowded streets of Pamplona causing panic and health official running amok screaming about flu shots. While there is nothing wrong with getting vaccinated, it is also important to take all the media hype surrounding this sickness with a grain of salt and to realize that if you keep your immune system in good shape with a healthy diet and exercise, chances are you will not get the swine flu.
The Orthomyxoviridae or Influenza Type A (H1N1) viruses was first discovered in 1918, and can be contracted through infected pigs that are handled by humans. (Please note: You cannot get it from eating pork). The H1N1 virus is a highly contagious respiratory infection that generally targets the elderly and young children with compromised immune systems; however anyone can catch this virus especially if they happen to be already sick or have a history of illness.
The hype
If you believe what the new anchors are telling you, then the swine flu is the next great plague that is sure to wipe out humanity and make the world like the one in 12 Monkeys. In reality, the amount of people who have actually died from the swine flu is quite small and nowhere near “pandemic” proportions. The people who have succumbed to the H1N1 viruses are generally in a state of poor health without any build flu defense and most people who get it, will probably live to tell their grandchildren about it.
Saying this, it is still wise to take some precautions when going to public places. Wash your hands with good antibacterial soap after you touch things and dress warmly. However, unless you have a severely compromised immune system, there is needed to go strutting about with a surgical mask on.
A healthy diet plan of prevention
The swine flu is a virus that targets weak immune system, so the best way to keep it from affecting you is to keep your immune system in tip top shape with a good diet plan that supports your immune system. Avoid processed garbage and eat a sensible meal of whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats like fish, turkey and chicken.
Another thing you can do is to be sure to incorporate nature’s ultimate immune booster: garlic into your diet. Research has shown that eating garlic regularly can boost your immune system, helping your T-Cell function better and more effectively. Garlic also helps improve your blood flow and keeps your arteries elastic which will also help keep you healthy and uncompromised. Garlic also contains powerful antiviral enzymes such as Allicin and Ajoene which have shown the abilty to kill off any potential invaders.
If you do catch the Swine flu
So, if you do happen to get the swine flu and feel all the symptoms including a fever, chills, body aches, lack of appetite, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, diarrhea and vomiting, do not panic. Instead there are steps you can take to limit the viruses’ impact on your body. First, stay away from solid food and drink lots of filtered water, freshly squeezed juices, and broth.
Juice some garlic
Another great way to break the swine flu’s hold on you is to add garlic cloves to your juicer and juice it along with your favorite juiced fruits and veggies. Fresh garlic is a powerful anti-viral herb that will make it difficult for the H1N1 to stick around. The sooner you eat garlic after you cut, crush or juice it, the better since the best antiviral enzymes are created right after.

The swine flu has killed some 2,000 people in the US alone and is continuing to kill more and more each day. In order to best prepare for the flu, you’ll need to realize how it works and you’ll want to follow these advice tips and precautions.
1. Drink plenty of water: drinking water is important because it keeps your body working properly and can help fend off fever. The swine flu is notorious in its ability to dehydrate people, something that weakens your immune system and makes you more easy to further infect. If you’re dehydrated, for example, you’ll have less lining in your lungs and the flu will infect them more easily. You’ll also open yourself up to bacterial co-infection. The flu even has the potential to kill you from dehydration alone, although this is relatively rare and unlikely to happen.
2. Get Tamiflu early if you show flu-like symptoms. Tamiflu is only useful if you get it in the first couple days after you become infected. If you don’t get it after then, then it’s really not that useful and won’t help much. You want to take Tamiflu within 48 hours of showing symptoms, although it is also useful as a preventative, but doctors aren’t really prescribing it for that anymore. If you can’t find Tamiflu at your local pharmacy, I recommend shopping around for it until you can find some. It’s incredibly important and not something that should be passed up.
3. Wear N95 masks. These masks are recommended for health care workers and are therefore recommended for you. These are good to help you avoid getting the flu but are also good if you have the flu yourself and are around people that are in high risk groups. While the mask’s filters aren’t small enough to fully block out the virus, they’ll stop the majority of it and will definitely help in avoiding getting sick, as I mentioned before.
4. Make sure you have plenty of food and water to survive if you need to isolate yourself. If there’s a particularly bad outbreak in your community with multiple people dying, you’ll want to isolate yourself. These outbreaks can last as long as four weeks, so I recommend getting at least enough food and water to last that long.
