A daily update on swine flu issued by the National Public Health Service for Wales. Spread and extent of the outbreak (information as at 5pm on 23 December) The NPHS influenza surveillance scheme, which records reports of diagnoses of flu from more than 300 GP practices across Wales, shows that the rate of influenza consultation is decreasing. But before this, Swine flu has became a query for all. Even people are still worrying about what to do with swine flu? Are keep looking for Doctors. Are looking for offline doctor and online doctor. They want to solve there queries get resolved by doctors just to get rid of this fear of Swine flu they want to ask a doctor online and offline by any means people are keep looking to get rid of this Giant know as “Swine Flu”.

The report from 22 December estimates there were 22.0 cases of a flu-like illness diagnosed by GPs out of every 100,000 people in Wales – this is the equivalent of 660 people in Wales contacting their GPs in the last seven days with flu like symptoms. Not all of these people will have swine flu and not everyone with flu like symptoms will contact their GP.

The report also shows levels of influenza activity in each county of Wales. On 22 December the rate of diagnosis of flu-like illness at a local level ranged from 5.1 per 100,000 people in Denbighshire to 37.8 per 100,000 people in Newport.

GPs are no longer being asked to swab people they suspect may have swine flu. Microbiology laboratories are therefore no longer testing mostpeople suspected of having swine flu.

The latest weekly swine flu report from the NPHS and Welsh Assembly Government, containing information on laboratory-confirmed cases of swine flu, hospitalised cases and swine flu-related deaths, can be found online. A new report is issued every Thursday. Please note that there will be no weekly report on 24 December and therefore the key points from the latest NPHS weekly surveillance report are summarised below.

Swine flu which is also known as H1N1 is a flu-like virus that can spread from person to person. It is different from the regular flu because it is affecting many young healthy adults and kids and the number of people getting hospitalized is larger. It is called swine flu because the same virus has also been seen in pigs.

Back in April 2009, the number of people catching the swine flu virus started to become concerning. World health organization got involved and decided to assess the situation. Many people were getting sick with flu like symptoms and what made it odd was that it was happening outside of flu season. It was also not affecting the typical people who would normally catch it. A third of people over 65 had immunity to it and young babies were not suffering as much as the older kids were. It was striking healthy young people and making them very sick.

It also spread from country to country very fast and started sending healthy people to the hospital. Although many people have only suffered mild cases there were still higher than normal amounts seen in the hospital and even suffering death. Most people who died from swine flu, died from the result of an illness associated with it.

Not only were healthy young people catching swine flu and having a hard time with it, so were people in the high risk groups. These groups include; pregnant women, people with asthma, kidney disease, lowered immune systems and people with diabetes.

Symptoms of the disease include but are not limited to; fever, sore throat, stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Vomiting and loose bowel movements have been noted but are not in every case. A person could have one of these symptoms or all of them. It also has been reported that in many of the deaths that people seemed to be getting better when their fever returns making them very ill.

It was advised that immediate help should be sought if any of the following symptoms happen, in kids; fast and trouble breathing, bluish, not waking up, fever with rash, not wanting to be held and irritable, and not wanting to drink. In adults the list include; breathing trouble, pain in chest, dizziness and confusion, and vomiting that doesn`t seem to stop.

Swine flu germs seem to stay on surfaces for two to eight hours and someone infected with swine flu is contagious one day before and up to seven days after.

The best way to prevent swine flu is to wash hands frequently and not put hands up to the face in public. If a family member is sick, try to keep everything clean and stay away from that person as well as keeping hands washed. A vaccine has also been developed and is available for everyone to take.

Swine flu is spread by either touching a contaminated surface and then touching your mouth or nose or eyes, or it can be spread by breathing in the air of someone infected, since it is also air born. Not everyone is catching it, and the duration of sickness in people is different, it is also striking hard on people randomly.

The swine flu has killed some 2,000 people in the US alone and is continuing to kill more and more each day.  In order to best prepare for the flu, you’ll need to realize how it works and you’ll want to follow these advice tips and precautions.

1. Drink plenty of water: drinking water is important because it keeps your body working properly and can help fend off fever.  The swine flu is notorious in its ability to dehydrate people, something that weakens your immune system and makes you more easy to further infect.  If you’re dehydrated, for example, you’ll have less lining in your lungs and the flu will infect them more easily.  You’ll also open yourself up to bacterial co-infection.  The flu even has the potential to kill you from dehydration alone, although this is relatively rare and unlikely to happen.

2. Get Tamiflu early if you show flu-like symptoms.  Tamiflu is only useful if you get it in the first couple days after you become infected.  If you don’t get it after then, then it’s really not that useful and won’t help much.  You want to take Tamiflu within 48 hours of showing symptoms, although it is also useful as a preventative, but doctors aren’t really prescribing it for that anymore.  If you can’t find Tamiflu at your local pharmacy, I recommend shopping around for it until you can find some.  It’s incredibly important and not something that should be passed up.

3. Wear N95 masks.  These masks are recommended for health care workers and are therefore recommended for you.  These are good to help you avoid getting the flu but are also good if you have the flu yourself and are around people that are in high risk groups.  While the mask’s filters aren’t small enough to fully block out the virus, they’ll stop the majority of it and will definitely help in avoiding getting sick, as I mentioned before.

4. Make sure you have plenty of food and water to survive if you need to isolate yourself.  If there’s a particularly bad outbreak in your community with multiple people dying, you’ll want to isolate yourself.  These outbreaks can last as long as four weeks, so I recommend getting at least enough food and water to last that long.  It’s not likely that you’ll lose utilities, but you’ll definitely want to avoid going out.  Multiple deaths in your area could mean that a particularly virulent strain is circulating, increasing the odds of you dying if you do catch it.

As swine flu sweeps our nation and rest of the world, public awareness fueled by media, leads to people seeking out early surveillance and intervention on their own, in an effort to head off serious illness. You can’t blame them for wanting to protect themselves and their families, as over a million cases have been documented in the U.S. alone; so many that the CDC has quit counting. There are 2 medications on the market that have been shown to be effective against swine flu, Relenza and Tamiflu. These medicines have to be administered within 2 days of the onset of symptoms (which last about a week), and are said to shorten the duration of symptoms by about 2 days. Because early detection is vital for the efficacy of these drugs, rapid detection is necessary. Many manufacturers are currently working on versions of a rapid H1N1 test to allow early detection in minutes, as opposed to days as is with traditional virus testing.

The trouble is, the preliminary results of these types of these tests have been poor. It was determined that too many false negative results, as many as half, occurred on a regular basis. In other words, the test failed to detect known swine flu in laboratory conditions, meaning a negative test at the doctor’s office wouldn’t actually guarantee that you don’t really have the swine flu. This is important because the patients at higher risk that really need the medication might not be treated due to false negative results.

The bottom line is, at this point we don’t have a rapid swine flu test. Plus, the seasonal flu and swine flu symptoms are mostly indistinguishable and similar in duration. Those symptoms include fever, headache, coughing, sore throat, and muscle pains, and sometimes diarrhea or vomiting. If shortness of breath occurs, you may have swine flu. Still however, symptoms of both should only last about a week. Either way, if your going to go to the doctor to get him to write you a prescription for Tamiflu, go the first or second day you get symptoms, otherwise the medication won’t be effective.

Keep in mind that the media fuels paranoia and irrational behavior, so use your best judgment before running to the ER or your doctor’s office. Remember during the first gulf war and after 911 when gas masks were flying off the shelves of U.S. Army surplus stores? People didn’t even know what kind of nerve gas or chemical warfare they were trying to protect themselves from, they just felt better having something. For the flu, it may just be better to take some swine flu precautions and swine flu vaccine and stay in bed, and catch up on your favorite TV shows.

Swine flu displays regular human flu symptoms including cough, fever, body ache, fatigue, sore throat, chills and headache. Antiviral medicines are available to prevent and treat swine flu, but right now appropriate vaccine is not available to protect from swine flu. Spreading of these germs can be prevented as it causes respiratory illnesses such as influenza by:

* Avoiding contact with sick patients, avoiding touching your mouth, eyes or nose as the germs spread faster in this way.

* Covering mouth and nose using a tissue while coughing or sneezing and immediately throwing the tissue in a trash after one use.

* Washing hands using soap and water, particularly after sneezing or coughing is essential and also using hand cleaners that are alcohol-based is preferred.

* Staying at home when you are sick without attending school or your work place is suggested to prevent spreading of this infection.

Immediate care is recommended on the initial symptoms of swine flu. The symptoms vary from person to person as there are patients having high fever, body ache and sore throat, while some complain about running nose, vomiting and diarrhea. However, these symptoms alone does not declare a person being infected by swine flu and is confirmed after the respiratory specimen lab test.

Precautions taken helps in minimizing the risk and the simplest way is covering the nose and mouth by wearing a mask. Mask covering assists in avoiding spreading the infection especially, when an infected person comes in contact. Precautions also include maintenance of high levels of hygiene, by washing hands frequently using soap and water. Subsequently, as influenza spreads through contact and air, surface sanitizing is also one of the best ways to prevent infections. Effective sanitizer is alcohol and even bleach can be employed to sanitize rooms and equipments used by patients having influenza symptoms.

Prevention of swine flu is considered in the aim of limiting the risks and this can be done by:

* – Building and balancing the immune system, as it is believed that this infection affects people having compromised immune systems easily. Hence, balancing and improving the overall immune system is the best solution to beat swine flu.

* Improving overall health is highlighted as mostly people having underlying medical conditions are easily prone to this risk. Getting into better shape is essential so that your body is a warrior to attack swine flu and this can be achieved by going on physical fitness program.

* Washing hands before and after meals is mandatory, besides also wash after shaking hands with outsiders. This is simple but very protective to keep you at a safe distance from getting infected.

* Avoiding crowded areas is advised as there are more chances of acquiring this flu mainly because it is difficult to identify swine flu inflected people, even if they stand next to you.

* Avoid visiting patients infected with swine flue is highly recommended as this enhances all the chances of spreading swine flu.

* Checking the temperature of your body regularly is advised as fever is the main swine flu symptom.

Treatment plays a significant role in preventing spreading of this deadly infection and also in curing the ailment. People with flu are suggested to take plenty of rest, avoid taking tobacco and alcohol and to drink lots of liquids such as fresh fruit juices and water. Taking medications to get relieved from fever and muscle aches is recommended, but definitely relying on self-medication is not advisable and hence getting in touch with the doctor will ensure the right treatment. Panicking on observing the symptoms will lead to seriousness, while maintaining coolness and getting tested will ascertain proper treatments.

If you arm yourself with the facts about the H1N1 virus and implement the proper measures, prevention of exposure and not spreading to others is possible. Below are 7 tips for prevention based on the facts about swine flu. This is just good common sense we should practice when dealing with any illness and  would be just as effective against any flu, even H1N1, this season.

1.Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or an alcohol based hand sanitizer.
Physical contact is the primary transmission method. Door handles, phones, tools, keyboards and similar items we share are the biggest offenders.

2.Sneeze or cough into a tissue or cloth. If neither are available use elbow or shoulder. This needs to be impressed on the young ones in the family.

3.Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth. This is most important when in public places but also needs to be exercised at home.

4.If sick with flu-like symptoms remain home for at least 24 hours after fever has broken except for doctor or hospital visits.

5.Follow public heath announcements concern school closures, avoiding traveling and other social distancing measures. When returning home from work, school or any other public place be sure to wash hands throughly.

6.Be prepared in advance with the basic necessities and medications to be able to stay home for a week or two just in case you do get sick.

7.Try to avoid contact with sick people but if necessary to do so take protective measures. If taking care of sick family members keeping all soiled clothing and linens washed as soon as possible is a good practice.

If illness persist, especially fever, consult your doctor. Be extra cautious in this regard with children since they are more impacted by the H1N1 flu and will have no immunities from previous viruses to rely on. Always take a child to the doctor when sick is what is recommended.

What separates the swine flu from the seasonal flu is the fact that children and young adults have the highest rate of mortality and not the aged. Swine flu is particular harmful to populations with preexisting conditions like asthma. It has been advised that everyone visit their doctor if sick during this unusual flu season.

Here in the United States, as of October 2009 the H1N1 flu vaccine is available on a limited basis. It is promised to be available to everyone in the next few weeks. Although there is rumored to be an upcoming mandatory vaccination program, at present getting vaccinated is strictly voluntary. Weather you choose this kind of defensive measure or not is up to you but it is important to get all the facts about swine flu, both  the passive and aggressive preventive measures available.

Basic everyday actions against the H1N1 virus are very effective, and easily implemented. Although a threat not to be taken lightly the facts about swine flu, when examined, can give you the upper hand when protecting yourself and your loved ones.

Don’t get caught off guard by H1N1! Arm yourself with the new Swine Flu Safety Handbook. Get ALL facts and resources in one place. Defend yourself and loved ones successfully.

Robert has researched assorted products dealing with the facts about swine flu and recommends this handbook as a complete source for current information for swine flu defense.

Swine Flu Symptoms – Look Out for Swine Flu Symptons!

One of the most deadly diseases which have shocked the world in recent times is H1N1 which in other words is known as Swine Flu.

This H1N1 not only affects kids but also human beings of all ages. As of now scientists are doing research on how to cure swine flu as there is no cure for this disease.

Prevention is the only way and there are many precautionary steps which have been advised by physicians.

Some of the H1N1 symptoms are body ache, vomit, and fever for 2-3 days continuously, breathing problems, cold and cough.

People who are having these symptoms are advised to go for a blood test immediately followed by wearing masks so that the virus does not spread to others.

People are cautioned not to touch each other if they are having any of the above symptoms and also are advised to stay in a clean environment.

People are also advised not to go into crowded areas because the possibility of H1N1 spreading is more in those areas. Even though there is no cure for this disease it is always advised to follow the steps provided by physicians and the government.

There were rumors that this swine flu is caused because of pigs, however scientists ruled out this case.

This particular virus is very common in pigs and H1N1 virus is very similar to pig flu and therefore people thought this virus is being spread because of pigs. It is not possible for a transmission from a pig to a human body.

Even though there are many drugs available to prevent H1N1 there is no drug which cures people who are affected with H1N1.
